Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026. This page lists every cookie Lumber Lookup uses, in plain language. It is kept accurate: if this list and the site ever disagree, the list is wrong and gets fixed.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. They are how a site remembers things between pages — that you signed in, or, on this site, what you chose in the cookie banner. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other companies’ code running on a page are third-party cookies. This site uses no third-party cookies.

The cookies this site uses

Everything on this site today is strictly essential — the site either cannot work, or cannot respect your choices, without it. There are no analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies in use.

CookieSet byWhat it doesHow long it lasts
consent_choiceLumber LookupRemembers the choice you made in the cookie banner, so we don’t ask on every page — and so nothing optional ever runs without your OK.12 months
auth_tokenLumber LookupKeeps you signed in after you log in, and protects the sign-in process. Set only when you sign in.7 days
admin_token_backupLumber LookupSet only for site administrators, only while an administrator is viewing the site as a user to provide support; it holds the administrator’s own sign-in so they can return to it. Never set for regular visitors.2 hours

What we don’t use

We do not use cookies to advertise, to track you across other websites, to build audience profiles, or to measure you for anyone else. If that ever changes, the new cookies will be named in the table above before they are switched on, the cookie banner will ask again, and nothing new will run unless you accept it.

Your choice, and how to change it

When you first visit, the banner at the bottom of the page offers Accept all and Reject non-essential. Today both choices behave the same way, because there is nothing non-essential to switch on — the choice is recorded now so it is already in force if that changes. You can change your mind at any time: the Cookie Settingslink in the footer of every page re-opens the banner. Changing your choice takes effect immediately for anything that hasn’t loaded yet, and from your next page view for everything else. You can also block or delete cookies for any site in your browser’s settings; the site will still work, but it will ask about cookies again, because deleting the consent_choice cookie deletes the record of your answer.
